MrBeast had folks talking when he posted a social media video announcing that he purchased the NFL.

MrBeast sparked confusion when he appeared in a video with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, popular streamer IShowSpeed and many more well-known names. In the video, Goodell stands at a press conference and announces that MrBeast is buying the league.

The truth behind MrBeast’s NFL purchase

Although the popular social media influencer boasts an estimated net worth north of $500 million, according to Cleats, the clip is only part of a promotional skit MrBeast put together in partnership with the NFL.

After taking the stage, MrBeast announces that he’s purchased the NFL and he’s making changes. As one of those changes, MrBeast said he’s adding a roster spot to each NFL team and he’s giving that spot to a YouTuber. Moments later, Sketch appears on the screen with a football in his hands, dressed in full uniform, vying to be one of the creators selected for the extra spot.

While Goodell expresses how much he hates the idea, MrBeast calls up many more popular creators and random people. IShowSpeed, who was among the the creators fighting for an NFL spot, lined up against Tyreek Hill on the football field to prove he has what it takes. Goodell watched the YouTuber’s skills and decided that MrBeast’s idea may not be so bad after all.

Who owns the NFL?

Despite the comedic skit performed by MrBeast and Goodell, the NFL is not actually owned by one person. According to USA Today, each of the 32 teams own a portion of the league. Goodell’s job as commissioner is to represent all the teams.

MrBeast, born Jimmy Donaldson, is one of the biggest names on YouTube thanks to his wild stunts, viral giveaways and larger-than-life challenges. Beyond the showmanship, he’s also behind businesses like Feastables and Beast Philanthropy, building an empire that goes way past internet clout. His videos rack up billions of views, and he’s carved out a lane as both an entertainer and changemaker in the digital space.
