A Louisiana State University first-year student-athlete was found unresponsive after a car crash.
ESPN reported that at approximately 3 a.m. on Thursday, backup quarterback Colin Hurley was discovered near the school’s campus.
The WBRZ Investigative Unit confirmed that the 17-year-old’s red Dodge Charger smashed into a tree near campus. A photo taken from the crash site shows the vehicle’s mangled front end.
It was not long after Hurley was pulled from the wreckage that he was in and out of consciousness. According to WBRZ, he had a large cut to his face, but no serious injuries were reported, although he was transported to a Baton Rouge hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
“Colin would like to thank the first responders, the incredible doctors and nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Health, and the many Tiger Fans for their care and compassion,” the university’s athletic department told People magazine on behalf of the 17-year-old’s family.
“Colin is resting and is stable while more tests and care are being administered. We are confident that Colin will make a full recovery from this terrible accident.”
According to ESPN, the crash’s cause has not been released.
