In 1968, audiences were blessed with the wonderful musical, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The film features Dick Van Dyke and is loosely based on a children’s book,Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car by Ian Fleming.
The movie follows a wacky father (Caractacus Potts) with a knack for inventing quirky things.
After creating a flying car, he meets Truly Scrumptious, the daughter of a wealthy confectionary manufacturer in England.
She slays…
While getting to know each other, Scrumptious and Potts go on a magical adventure with Potts’ children to a land with no children. The mean king hired a man to catch children.
Sounds odd, but the truth is this musical is great.
The music is incredible.
And the choreography is on point.
But there’s one problem — the movie has no diversity.
Seriously, this musical is whiter than untouched snow. It’s been 40 years, it’s time for a remake. And this time, the movie needs color…and lots of it.
Here are my cast suggestions:
Nate Parker as Caractacus Potts
Beyoncé as Truly Scrumptious
Daniel Dae Kim as Lord Scrumptious
Rowan Blanchard as Jemima Potts
Hudson Yang as Jeremy Potts
Lin Manuel-Miranda as Grandpa Bungie Potts
Rosario Dawson as Baroness Bomburst
Daveed Diggs as Baron Bomburst
Todrick Hall as the Evil Child Catcher
