According to Fox 13, it all started when eight people entered Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen in Cordova, Tennessee. It was a busy night at the restaurant, and the wait time for an adequate table was an hour. Omarion Ford, who works as a host at the restaurant, had no choice but to separate the party to get them seated.

“The girl in the green said she don’t like the table, so she’d rather get a bigger table, so I said it was still going to be a few minutes so they left,” Ford, who asked Fox 13 not to identify him, told the outlet.

The group didn’t have it and demanded he find a larger table. The teen then said a man in the group approached him to discuss the situation and punched him in the face.

“His whole family started coming toward me, jumping me,” the 17-year-old said. “And after that is when I blacked out. Don’t remember nothing.”

Later, the teen’s mother, Latisha Ford, arrived to find her son on the floor, surrounded by paramedics. She told Fox 13 she was horrified by what happened.

“For these people to be twice his size, you know it’s unacceptable, very unacceptable,” she told the outlet.

Ford also said she’s unhappy with how the restaurant handled the incident.

“Corporate called me, and the only thing they asked was, Do we need any food?” she said. “I don’t need any food. I want justice for my son.”

Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen sent a statement regarding the incident to Fox 13, expressing shock and sadness “by this senseless act of violence against our team member.”

“Violence has no place in our restaurant and we are cooperating fully with the police investigation. Any further questions should be directed to the Memphis Police Department,” the company wrote.

Memphis Police have said the suspects left the scene in a large white SUV.
