Cardi B’s legal troubles have come to an end.
According to ABC News, a Los Angeles jury sided with the “Outside” rapper in a $24 million lawsuit filed by security guard Emani Ellis, who claimed Cardi assaulted her during a 2018 incident.
Ellis claimed Cardi cut her face with a 3-inch fingernail and spat on her
Ellis claimed that she got into an altercation with Cardi in the hallway of the Beverly Hills building where she worked as a security guard that houses the rapper’s obstetrician’s office. According to Ellis, Cardi cut her cheek with a 3-inch fingernail and spat on her, leaving her with injuries that required plastic surgery and cost her job.
Cardi, who hadn’t yet publicly shared she was pregnant at the time, claimed Ellis followed and filmed her without her consent. She alleged that Ellis refused to give her space when she asked for it.
Dr. David Finke, Cardi’s physician, and his receptionist supported the rapper’s claims during the trial, noting they had never witnessed a physical fight between the women. They confirmed the office was closed that day to protect Cardi’s privacy.
According to CNN, Ellis sought punitive and other damages, including medical costs for the alleged scratch on her face.
The trial went viral on social media for Cardi’s courtroom fashion, beauty and humorous testimony.
Cardi continued to deny Ellis’ claims after the jury’s verdict
Outside of the courtroom following the verdict, Cardi continued to deny Ellis’ claims and thanked her supporters.
“I did not touch that woman,” she said. “I did not touch that girl. I didn’t lay my hands on that girl.”
Following her victory, Cardi continued promoting her upcoming album, Am I the Drama?, by giving fans a taste of a new track on the project, “Bodega Baddie,” by sharing a video on TikTok of her dancing to the song in her courtroom outfit.
“Walking out of court likeeee 💃 🎉 #bodegabaddie,” she captioned the clip.
Am I the Drama?, Cardi’s long-awaited sophomore album, is scheduled for release on Sept. 19.
