Brandy is opening herself up like never before. The soon-to-be 46-year-old singer and mother has announced she’s releasing a memoir in a People exclusive.
Scheduled for an Oct. 7, 2025 release, the book is untitled at the moment, but fans can expect to get an inside look at how the artist went from a little in Mississippi with big dreams to becoming the “Vocal Bible.”
“Brandy’s raw and inspiring memoir is a testament to hope, resilience and the strength needed to make peace with the past,” a statement read.
Brandy burst onto music scene in 1994 thanks to her self-titled album, which spawned two platinum-selling hits “I Wanna Be Down” and “Baby.” She was only 15 years old at the time. Her success soared to new heights when she starred in her own TV show titled Moesha two years later. In 1997, made history as the first Black actress to play a Disney princess in 1997’s Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, starring alongside the legendary Whitney Houston, who also served as a mentor to a young Brandy throughout her career.
“It’s such an honor and such a blessing to be able to inspire people, to be able to have purpose that way, to be able to encourage young girls to dream big and to go after what you want,” Brandy told People in July 2024 about reviving her iconic Cinderella character in the Disney+ film Descendants: The Rise of Red.
“I didn’t know it at the time when I first played Cinderella, I didn’t really know the impact it was going to have,” she added. “But to know it now is, to look back, it’s like, ‘Wow.’ And then, to get an opportunity to play her again is just continued inspiration.”
Despite an extraordinary career, Brandy has also been dealt with some “unimaginable lows,” which she details in the forthcoming memoir. She hopes that by sharing her experiences with body image, bullying, love and heartbreak that others can learn from her story and feel inspired.
“I am so excited to finally share my full story in book form,” Brandy told People. “This memoir is the result of countless hours of reflection, work and healing. I hope readers will find comfort and inspiration in these pages.”
