Hip-hop historians all over the nation have stored away their fuzzy Kangols and acid washed jeans with Wednesday’s announcement that Netflix decided not to order a second season of Baz Luhrmann’s musical drama, The Get Down. News of the cancellation comes just after the hip-hop drama set in 1970’s Bronx New York dropped the second installment of Season 1 just last month.
In a heartfelt letter, Luhrmann took to Facebook to address the cancellation saying, “As for the real future of the show, the spirit of The Get Down, and the story it has begun to tell… it has its own life. One that lives on today and will continue to be told somewhere, somehow, because of you, the fans and the supporters.” As news of the cancellation spread, #BlackTwitter logged their reactions.
