A couple of days ago Fast Company released The '10 Most Innovative Companies in Music 2017' list, which, in the name itself, exudes prestige. When you think innovative you think of cutting edge, ahead of the trend, and one possessing significant influence. Dollars and cents are cool, but these are people, brands, and companies that are affecting the way we listen to music.
Companies like Spotify and Bandcamp, who are both influencers in streaming and music respectively, made the list. And other companies such as Kobalt, who's aim is to track down unpaid royalties, and Instagram, which has become a huge part of interacting with your favorite celebrities, made the list as well.
While the streaming accomplishments of Spotify help solidify its spot as number one on the most innovative list, Beyoncé's company Parkwood Entertainment, came in at number two — not a bad feat for what's mainly a one-woman show.
Deciding to manage herself in 2007, Parkwood Entertainment spearheaded everything Bey from her albums to her live performances that continue to dominate the music industry year after year. Her Formation tour brought in $256 million, making it the second-highest grossing tour last year. Talk about influence.
Not to be overdone, Drake found his esteemed OVO Sound right behind her highness at number four on the list. October's Very Own broke records last year with Drake's studio album Views that landed him a record-breaking 13 American Music Award nominations, a $19 million deal with Apple and the most-streamed artist on Spotify recognition.
